Comedy Karaoke

Comedy Den was off the chain. I didn’t think the idea of making comedians sing after their sets was going to work at all but TJ talked me round. With Wrigley MCing, we had five comedians with varying comedic and singing abilities.

The dark horse Jav Jarquin must practice singing in the shadows. Stepping in at the last minute to open the night he tore the roof off with La Bamba, which I understand is a traditional song of his people. The dance, the energy, he was a man possessed. Brad Zimmerman admirably stepped in the huge void remaining after Jav left the stage. Despite wearing a ridiculous t shirt he performed commendably and was probably the only comedian to segue into his song, Kryptonite by 3 Doors Down. At this point Wrigley introduced the idea of having three audience judges who had the power to vote comedians offstage. I remember TJ McDonald drinking about 4 shots of tequila, I can’t remember his song, I think he got voted off. Simon McKinney brought out some new material on the bucket fountain and then nailed Penny Lane. Penny Lane by the Beatles. Rhys Matthewson topped off the night with a solid gig, or as solid as things can get at 1.30 in the morning and Steve brought almost the whole audience on stage for Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer. Awesome times. Quote of the night to Dan, ‘You shall not pass!’.
